I am visiting my niece’s booth at “The Good Neighbors” at Rockwell Club, Amorsolo Square, Makati City.

It is just a little across Edades Tower and Powerplant Mall. We arrived a little earlier, and when I saw Jen’s eyes, looking at her left and her right in random, she was either saying something like Powerplant mall or Dean and
DeLuca? Instantly, she asked: “Coffee?” And of course, after checking the time in my watch, I just said: “Come on!” =)

As planned, we ordered for our coffee: Cafe Dulce de Leche (the dulce served separately) for Jen and Caramel Machiatto for me.

We had two kinds of desserts to match it. It was unlikely that we didn’t get blueberry cheesecake this time.

I was totally enticed by that Dutch apple pie,

and as usual Jen had her salted caramel cheesecake.

Over varying topics while devouring on what we’ve ordered, we realized they were too sweet we had to get something like a stasis to balance our palates.

We opted to choose the Pasta E Pomodoro, it is an organic pasta with fresh tomato, basil, garlic in olive oil. It came with a garlic bread which Jen and I shared equally.

The attendant asked if we wanted it with chicken or meatballs, and we both decided to have it done meatless.

It surely balanced that sweetness from our desserts and drinks. Jen liked it a lot, (she consumed all those Arugulas) since it was cooked the Italian way, as her preferences are pastas that are never sweet.

Her salted caramel is something we can tagged as “TDF” (To die for), it is one of of the best salted caramel cheesecake we’ve tried so far, and my apple pie is really good too.

These epicurean treats definitely made us want to go back and we already know what to try next time, we intend to try their branch at Eton Tower, Legaspi Village, Makati City, which happens to be nearer from Jen’s workplace.

Dean and DeLuca, on its’ 40th year originated from lower Manhattan, USA. At present, due to demands, they were able to put up branches across USA: New York City, Washington D.C., Charlotte, North Carolina, Leawood, Kansas, Napa Valley, California and Honolulu, Hawaii. They are also in Japan, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Kuwait and United Arab Emirates.

In our country, Dean and DeLuca has two branches: the one at Edades Tower, Rockwell Makati and the one at Eton Tower.

Everything you’ll ever need is at Dean and DeLuca. They’ve got choices for Starters, Salads, they have Quinoa too, they have soups, they offer a wide range of Main delicious dishes, from Sushi and rolls, Grain bowls, Burgers, Sandwiches, Tapas, Pancakes & waffles, Pastas and sourdough Pizzas and of course Desserts, even organic ice cream!

Beverage list is almost endless from Cocktails, coffee and teas, milk shakes and wines (red and white).

They have gourmet and gift items too.

I’m not wondering why Tatler voted for them. Everything at Dean and DeLuca is sumptuous. =) It instantly became our favorite! =)

MAARTE Fair 2016…

Maarte Fair 2016

“I was created to create.”

Maarte Fair kicked-off 3 years ago and much as I want to see it then, time didn’t permit me.

pg-1
Since 2013…

So come 2016, I looked forward to it and kept an eye as to when it’ll be held and of course where.

Upon seeing the event’s title, I remember our own exhibit before I graduated from college. It says: “Artenikulasa”. It featured our actual execution of what was in our thesis. It was held at Shangri-la mall, in Mandaluyong City.

1993
OMG! 1993! ahaha

Being “maarte” might insinuate a not so positive thought to many, however, with me, at times I am being associated with everything that is “maarte”, I didn’t mind and even took it as a compliment.

Everything is nice and pretty…

I’d rather be known as “maarte” than be bland, not necessarily being up to date with all the current trends, just making sure there is artistry, be it with the way I dress, the way I fix my sanctuary, even with my cooking and how I blog or write as well.

Due to a really very busy schedule, and hunting for friends who would take their time out just to accompany me, even if at times it’s not their cup of tea, I found my way to see the fair on a Sunday. It’s the last day of the event. For the last three years, it’s been held every last weekend of August, from Friday to Sunday.

I had this fear of not being able to make it again this time, for one, I got sick last week, the whole of Saturday was pre-planned to celebrate my sister-in-law’s birthday and I made sure that Sunday would be free. And I had to mention being thankful to my ever supportive buddy – Jen, she is not just my travel and foodie buddy but also my art buddy as well. I am good to attend it alone, It’s just that it would be great to share with her this experience and get her views too.

So this it, finally I get to see the fair. I could not express how happy and excited I was to make it and see myself witnessing artisans from all over the country showcasing the best of their crafts. It was an assembly of individuals with a common ground. Their love for art.

An artist’s life has two sides like a coin, the other is the realization that you are one and the other side is living the realization. They are the other side. While I, I think I’m on my way.

The artist in all of us is seen in all our surroundings. It is there each time we speak, it is traced in our gaze, it is evident in our every actions, with the way we express ourselves and it is felt in our hearts. You would instantly notice it upon meeting another.

The fair was a gamut of everything that is nice and pretty and tedious. I say tedious because it took someone’s time and effort and laborious days and nights to finish a masterpiece. Signed with uniqueness.

And once it is finished, it spelled happiness in every artisan.

You will also wonder as to what inspired them to create one when passion is calling their names out loud. To create a piece, there is always an inspiration behind, and believe me, each story is uniquely interesting.

Creating a piece for me is like two souls intertwined, the one who created it and the one who was why it was created. That piece itself is like a bond that will pull them together for as long as the memory can recall.

Every artist can evolve… everyone can…

These are the things that inspires me as well, so I am looking up again next year to witness all things beautiful reborn. Who knows, I might see myself as one of them too.

I shriek for shrimps! – Bubba Gump, Greenbelt 3, Makati City

Broadly speaking, I am not much into seafood, but when when we talk of shrimps, hhhmmn, I could have just hoard anti-histamine medicines from the drugstores.

I haven’t been visiting Makati in a while, and been planning to visit Bubba gump for a long time. I have frequented this place years ago when my work is still located in Makati.

10 years ago, Makati was one of my two options when it comes to malling and eating -out, the other one is Alabang. Nowadays, there are options everywhere. =) The country has evolved and comes with it is the escalated taste F&B Industry has to offer. They are now capable of giving variety to most consumers. Both for its’ look and taste of their food.

For me, it is a good thing, as I am a natural foodie. =) When you check my weekly viands at home, it is very balanced, since my mom had to follow a stricter diet due to old age. I give into my cravings outside (some feast both for my tummy and eyes) a secret I kept from my mom, or else, she will torture me with her own cravings too. =)

So, I had this chance, and even if Greenbelt, or the streets of Makati offer hundreds of equally worth – it food spots, I am much into trying Bubba Gump for the nth time.

It’s just that I binged over lunch at 2pm, so we weren’t able to get as much as we want. It was only half past 500pm.

And we opted for the Shrimper’s heaven.

Hefty..

And for our dessert, we had Mama’s bread pudding.

mamas pudding
This is my first time to try this and I must say it is one of the best pudding I’ve tasted. =)

You wouldn’t believe, foodies as we can be, we apparently requested the attendant to pack our food as we weren’t able to consume even half of it. We almost forgot that it’s American size.

Still, I am happy to be here again. =) Thinking of this place as characterized by some of the elements I mostly love, not just shrimps, but the photos of some scenes from one of my most favorite movie of all time. =)

Corner Tree Cafe for sexy Vegan Anne…

Corner Tree Cafe for sexy Vegan Anne…

Anne and I have been calling each other friends or sisters from different moms way back our high school days. If you do the math, it is more than 30 years ago.

Before our 2nd year in high school, she flew to Chicago and I had to say with gratefulness that she is one of those most thoughtful friends I’ve had.

If I will collate all her snail mails and cards and photos and postcards that she meticulously put inside fab envelopes and send it to me via air mail, it is even more than those unread letters that we’ve seen from the movie: “The Notebook”.

And if you asked me, I find them sweeter than E-mails. =)

Through the years, during her regular visits to her motherland, she makes it a point to see us if time and super hectic schedule permits.

Our last one was 2009. We brought her to the then very famous Mall of Asia, I brought along my son, we were with some of Anne’s friends and it is only now that I realized it’s been 7 years.

It wasn’t difficult for her to assemble and bring together friends from different times and places like putting up a small party or a reunion. All her friends are very nice.

And a few months ago, for her 2016 visit, we were already planning, where to go, where to eat, what to do.

So today, you might be surprised that I am dining at a Vegetarian Cafe tucked in a corner somewhere in Makati City. Since Anne turned into a Vegan years ago.

Corner tree cafe is one of the most popular Vegan restaurants in the country, nutrient-packed and fiber dense recipes meant for Vegans.

corner menu board
One of the attendants is still finishing up their menu board, and paused so we can take a photo..

It might be less exciting for me, (still an omnivore) minus the meat and sauces and all, well I didn’t expect that I finished them happy and satisfied.

We had these soups as starters:

Pechay and Spinach soup for Anne. It’s so green!

While Mabel had the Sicilian tomato soup.

Anne claimed to be starving had Tofu Teriyaki with Sauteed Asparagus & Shiitake Mushrooms.

We also had Veggie Laing… which is so creamy and you can strongly feel how the leaves absorbed the coconut milk through slow-cooking.

No meat here..

Those are Taro leaves stewed in coconut milk served with red rice.

Corner tree Cafe offers a variety of desserts which we didn’t tackle since part of our itinerary is visiting Laduree. It is 15 minutes away from Jupiter st., Makati. And Anne also requested for “Taho”.

The lamps and halogen bulbs created warmth all over the place..
corner drinks
Though we had slightly sweetened drinks… Iced tea w/ lemon grass for Anne and ripe mango for me..

And when it got dark, they provided us with a candle..

Thank you!

Mabel was vigilant enough to remember that there’s one from Power Plant Mall in Rockwell Center, Makati City. And Laduree is in Rockwell Center too. Its’ like hitting not just 2 but 3 birds in one stone.

We asked Anne if she’s happy with what we’ve had, she smiled sweetly and claimed that she is. And we again asked if she’s satiated and with her decorous giggles, she told us “Not yet!”

And we reminded her of the taho and macarons, etc. Taho is a staple morning snack food in the Philippines made of fresh silken tofu, with a thick sweet syrup, and sago pearls.

You wouldn’t believe, a Hollywood actress (Game of Thrones) have been hanging out here.

We called it a day past dinner time and looked forward in anticipation of more taho and more zip-lining in the future.

Corner tree cafe is located at: 150 Jupiter St., Bel-Air, 1209 Makati City

I requested for additional bread sticks for my soup… =)
