CELESTINE Bazaar

CELESTINE Bazaar

“Every artist was first an amateur.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

I have not attempted to write about losing a loved-one. I do not have the strength for it. I lost my mother months ago and then I learned that there’s a proof that even in lowest times, you can find something positive from it. With me, I developed new relationships, or specifically new friendships.

Jen, the owner of Celestine Bazaar is my schoolmate during high school. We have common friends, though we’re not literally friends then. And very recently, that common friend brought us together. In a special way, it made me happy, because they reminded me of the good old days, and who I was.

Jen never stopped sending me comforting messages when she learned I lost my mom and it surprises me that she gives it to me, free-flowing. I really appreciate it. It meant a lot to me. I have been thinking of ways how I could give it back.

And during one of our chats, she invited me to visit her shop: “Celestine Bazaar”, she named it after her second mom, sister of her mom, who also passed away and we shared the same sentiments. She was very thoughtful. She and our common friend (who lost her mom too), made me feel that they understand what I’m going through.

She invited me to visit the shop once, and instantly, when I get there, I found nice items for myself, I also bought one for my mom even if she’s physically no longer with me, I bought her a mirror. =)

Onwards, the friendship continues and we discovered having the same interests, and one time, we ended up to collaborate by doing ex-deals. She allowed me to display my beaded stuff in her shop and I offered too that she can also display some stuff in my mom’s shop at home soon.

You will surely find items that will interest you at Celestine Bazaar. I, personally, each visit, left the place not empty handed. As there are too many good finds. Beautiful things in all corners are plenty and pretty. You’ll find yourself planning to go back again as you intend to buy more stuff.

I am so proud of her to showcase and endorse the incredible craftsmanship of Filipino wood carvers from Paete, Laguna: The Wood carving capital of the Philippines. =)

She is also meticulous in offering new items. Soon, we are going together to Paete, where she gets all of her wooden items that are intricately created. I can’t wait for that too.

The floor lamps are one of her best sellers:

190 Artists Gallery

190 Artists Gallery

“An Artist cannot fail. It is a success just to be one.” ~Charles Horton Cooley~

I just have this immeasurable admiration for people who invest in the Arts and culture. And this is where 190 Artists Gallery (formerly Artists Haven) true passion and genius lies.

ag 12

As I spotted this place, my imagination immediately came back from how it all began and how they were able to throw in together and generate such vast collection on top of a very well thought of and awe-inspiring interiors. Not to forget mentioning the foolproof blending of colors that only a true artist can achieve. Plus the great line-up of food to top it all.

I have been dreaming too big to witness up-close places that’s synonymous to Arts, as this niche grows dynamically each day. I might not be not fortunate enough as most of them are located in other countries, and I do not have that capacity yet. However, during discoveries like this, and 190 Artists Gallery’s location is doable for me, It didn’t take me a week to decide and visit.

Their Social Media Account Manager is so accommodating to guide me upon my inquiry.

And when I get there, everything spelled happy.

For all the Art Enthusiasts out there, you would want to visit this place and truly enjoy every minute of it. Let alone those Instagrammable photos amuse your viewers and yourself as well as it did to me.

They have been giving workshops too. I intend to go back and hopefully there will be an ongoing activity by then. There’s more to see on the second floor. And try the other special treats from their menu list.  =)

ag 18

At home, I’ve always dreamt that my bathroom is the prettiest spot in the house. And so this one inspired me big time.

ag 17

That feeling of “I can’t get enough” applies, I’ll just let my photos speak for themselves. =)

I learned that most of them are by renowned visual artist and a master printmaker – Fil Dela Cruz among other well-known artists.

I wondered why I discovered them just now. The Gallery have been there for more than 30 years now. Probably during the 80s, these books are proofs.

It just didn’t stimulate all of my senses, I felt my soul is so delighted too. =)

Great finds at LANDERS Superstore (Alabang West)

Great finds at LANDERS Superstore (Alabang West)

“What once loved in childhood, stays in the heart forever”. ~Mary Jo Putney~

I have been hearing a lot about Landers from my kids. My son in particular have been so excited each time he will mention to me that like S&R, Landers has a pizza parlor too. And we all know, that for him, pizza is synonymous to the word “happy”.

I can’t blame him, I remember myself as a child, I almost can’t sleep if my father announced that we will be going to the supermarket the next day, I recall the cart being pushed by my papa and mama’s the one scrutinizing items displayed on every shelf, and it literally put a smile on my face to remember times like this as a child. The same excitement I was able to inject to my son as well. As he used to go with me as a child, during visits to the supermarket. Maybe just like my parents, I must be ready (or my wallet) if my son is with me during each visit. =)

So one weekend, My son and I decided to finally check this newly opened branch in Alabang with his girlfriend – Gela.

Photo grabbed from: http://landers.ph/about-us

I was thinking of only a few things that I’m hoping to find at Landers which I didn’t find from the other (S&R). Echo eyed just one or two, his barbecue sauce.

I got the 2 kids one bottle for each. #skewerjunkies

And of course not to miss the New York style pizza from Landers Central.

Left photo grabbed from: http://landers.ph/about-us
My son said the dough are hand-tossed. While I like their pizza better, since it isn’t too oily. =)

Similar brands are at hand, there’s also a corner for pastries via Dough & Co. For non-food, I also spotted super soft bed coverings and towels, the usual corners I visit and of course: toiletries.

My favorite brand for pistachios.

The brands for popcorn such as Garretts, Act II, Butterkist, Werthers I didn’t find, but I found this. So I’m happy too. =)

Some staple brands like Bragg ACV, Combos cheese, I found them cheaper from local supermarkets.

This hard to find mayonnaise is available too. =)

Basically, whenever you already prepared a long list of what to cook for a week, everything you need is there. From condiments to flavored meats, delis, veggies, name it.

They also have our own Carmen’s Best, lined up along Double rainbow ice cream, Baileys, Cadbury, even wine flavored ice cream to mention a few. And the sausage I need for gumbos.

What made Landers interesting to me is that they put special attention to their interiors. They didn’t look like an air-conditioned warehouse of grocery items, they took care of the ambience that it felt good doing your groceries. Definitely blissful. =)

And, this part I find amusing, there is a Barber shop inside. What I thought of instantly is that since some men aren’t that patient to accompany their wives, girlfriends or daughters while shopping. They dedicated a special place for “The Boys” to stay or do something while waiting for their ladies. Isn’t it a cool idea? =)

Check them out, one might just be near your place. Here are their locations (more branches to open they say):

-Balintawak, Quezon City
-Otis, Paco, Manila
-Cebu City
-Alabang, Muntinlupa City
-Arcovia, Pasig City

Alabang West

It was great to know that the membership fee (P800.00 for non-business) is half the original price when we visited. =)  Apply online, and you’ll get the same perk too. Hurry!

Why BURGER GEEK?

Why BURGER GEEK?

“To be in your children’s memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today.”

My sons’ girlfriend and I were trying to to look for a place to try at Molito’s in Alabang since we are free that weekend.

a boutique mall
Molito is a Boutique mall down in south.

Out of the many establishments to choose from, we filtered our choices with just two: Burgers or Pizzas. And at last, we found and opted for this odd though uniquely named burger joint: The “Burger Geek”.

facade

It sounded cute, it brought to my mind bevy of millennials enjoying each other’s company. It is so them. My kids. The ones born during the early 1990s. That one of a kind generation! The babies of the Gen X which where I belong! =)

my kids

Burger Geek is just small in terms of space, you can call in advance to reserve a table. Still, they were able to splash the desired effect of the theme that they’re trying to imbibe.

This mural resembled the Periodic table of elements only that each letter represents ingredients and tools that they use in their kitchen.

menu

So here’s what we’ve got:

nachos burger geek

Echo my son opted for the “Hangover” (because the ingredients of the patties has beer in it), I had my usual nachos and our baby girl ordered for “B+” (B stands for bacon) =).

We were served with a complimentary prawn crackers which is known locally as “Kropek”.

kropek

It was a short dining experience but was very memorable as I was with my son and someone very close to him and me as well. They are my family.

iced tea
It is bottomless. =)

I’ve always known the importance of spending quality time with kids because we are not the only one who’s busy, they are quite busy too and to find time being with each other allows us to create memories that we can look back at later in our lives.

We intend to do it more often, and had plans laid out already, different activities to bond aside from eating. =)

I assumed that Burger Geek have a specific market that they want to target, however, I guess they attracted several markets due to the uniqueness and tastefulness of their food.

kinda eyesore
Slightly “eyesore” (in my opinion)

It is located at: 16A, Molito Lifestyle Mall, Madrigal Ave, Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa, Metro Manila. You can contact them thru: 02-801-2903 and/ or email them at: burgergeekph@gmail.com

SKEWERED by PHATCHICK

SKEWERED by PHATCHICK

We’re learning something new everyday. ~Michael Tigar~

It is being famished that our feet led us to this new restaurant at the new wing of Festival Mall. We were looking for something new to have an early dinner and their facade was too eye-catching, plus the barkers who had us stopped and succeeded in convincing us to try their place.

I specifically like the theme, and asked the Restaurant Manager about it, I told her the story I was able to create out of scanning the whole place, according to her, the owner just wanted it to be different from the others, something outlandish or quirky. Or maybe a term I typically use during the early 90s: eclectic.

These lamps mounted on the walls reminded me of a ship’s hallway. Except for the cemented wall.

My take here is that I visualized a group of adventurers who
might have confronted a not so good weather in the sea and
came to a halt, to a remote island perhaps.

Turning a negative situation into a positive one, the group opted to enjoy just being there so as to survive while waiting for some rescue. Of course, they would have to look for food and there’s no denying that the only approach they could cook their meal is by grilling.

And so they came up with this backdrop. Can you see what I
just visualize? Ala Pirates of the Carribean. =)

When it comes to their menu. You’ll have a few choices, it is a fusion of specialties from Asian countries such as: Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, etc. While it’d already suffice since what’s on their list is good enough and would be the usual favorites of foodies like us and pair it with the drink we have in mind.

The attendant recommended that we try the pork & cabbage fried rice, so I got it and Jen tried their signature Phatchick’s fried rice. And paired with tempura and bacon-wrapped Enoki mushroom. That barbecue sauce is so rich in flavor serving the purpose of enhancing what already tastes good to me.
I am at a loss for words because it is my first time to try Enoki mushrooms. I didn’t regret as it is flavorful and the texture is just right.

Spend time with office mates from work or just to bond with friends and family and who just want to relax, spend good times and enjoy the night. Their beverage list are a few typical drinks that any customer should be looking for. Try the TIKI cocktails, it is a first here in the Philippines.

I really like it when stuff are personalized. =)

If you want to experience and wander at something new in
Alabang, they’re located at: Ground Floor, Expansion Wing (Water Garden), Festival Mall, Filinvest City, Alabang, Muntinlupa City

You can also call them at: 02 2469069 ext:998
