Sweet Wanderings at “The Dessert Museum”

Sweet Wanderings at “The Dessert Museum”

“Dessert is like a feel-good song and the best ones make you dance.” ~Chef Edward Lee~

My being enthralled with Broadway hits is something I always look forward to every year, this time, we booked earlier to watch “Lion King Manila” in celebration of their 50th show, which is set here in my country, at Solaire Hotel just a few blocks away from Conrad Hotel where “The Dessert Museum” is located.

Jen as always, supports me with my fascination, she secured us 2 seats months ago and I am thankful for her to do such things for me, however, there is a tweak that I sometimes need to give support to her whims too. And while waiting for our slots for that night’s show, she brought me first to “The Dessert Museum”.

Obviously, said place is meant for the young ones like her, not that I’m admitting to the fact that I am no longer that young, but even with what I’m wearing, I could have gone there in a more comfortable clothes or could have worn flat shoes or even rubber shoes. Well, that is what friends are for.

I opted to go barefoot but I can’t stand it. =(

The museum is for kids at heart, curated for this popular and very influential generation: The Millennials who would immediately post their experiences via photos or videos on their social media accounts. Most of them would refer to it as “Instagrammable” or Instagram worthy shots. =)

Naughty or Nice? =)

In less than an hour, we were able to wander inside this candy-like museum and honestly, I enjoyed it too. Specifically loving the pastel colors all around me, it felt sweet. =)

To set expectations, you will wander on eight (8) themed rooms which are as follows:

– Donuts

– Marshmallows

– Candy canes

I loved their macarons. =)

– Ice cream

I opted to go barefoot but I can’t stand it. =(
Of course, my ice cream is “ube” flavor. =)
She doesn’t wanna leave the room.

– Bubble gum

I remember I have a video inside a huge bubble, I just can’t find it. But I’ll post it as soon as I did. Sorry. =( It was so much fun!

– Cotton candy (The sweetest room and my favorite!)

– Gummy bears

– Cakes

Feeling kid… I think she really enjoyed being here.

Six of the 8 rooms come with a free dessert and my favorite is the marshmallow in two different flavors which you will get a chance to dip it yourself either from their purple yam (ube flavor) and strawberry fountain. Oh, I think it is what I like best and the cotton candy too and the macarons.

There are attendants to brief you before the adventure begins. It felt exciting at that time. Out of excitement, I was in between listening attentively to the guide and saying “Come on let’s go!” Since it is literally something new. Each of the themed rooms are manned by attendants who will sweetly offer you your choice of a free dessert before they lead you to the next room. They are there to assist you from the first to the last of all the 8 rooms. It wasn’t just fun but educational as well. That free dessert? That was my most favorite part. =) The sweet tooth that I’ve always been.

Your last stop will be shopping. There are good finds in their Souvenir shop (food and Non-food). But we wouldn’t want to be late on our next stop right? So maybe next time. =)

The Dessert Museum is located at unit 124, 126, 127a, Coral way, S Maison Mall, Conrad Hotel, Manila, MOA, Pasay City

Find time to visit this one of a kind museum and surely, you will find it very entertaining and of course sweet. =) There is also a system that they implemented where each guest(s) or group(s) will truly enjoy said museum by making it not that crowded, allowing you to maximize your time taking photos and enjoying the activity itself. I find it very organized. You can actually book online, via this link: https://www.thedessertmuseum.com/howtobook/

Luna Cafe…

Luna Cafe…

“Coffee and friends, make the perfect blend.”

On my way to work, I spotted this newly-opened coffee shop in our hometown. Luna Cafe. It looks cozy from the outside, and I saw some splashes of the color pink inside. I instantly wanted to pay visit and check their menu so I scheduled it immediately over the next weekend.

Facade… They’re on the second floor.

I have been on the look-out for a coffee shop ala “Starbucks” that’s just near my place, like a rendezvous. I think this one’s the nearest so far. I have a leaning with “Picked” but it is 2 rides away from where I lived. And Starbucks is an hour drive from home.

Luna Cafe happens to be sitting beside another coffee shop. I just wondered why the owner of the place allowed tenants in similar businesses, it should be offer a variety as they will both benefit from it, looking at it, the other coffee shop looked gloomy, there was no guests at that time. While there are 2 tables occupied at Luna cafe.

Their interiors is the typical shabby looking, modern take of whats’ eclectic since they combined industrial chairs with girly and chic pieces, there are even flowers mounted on their walls that are made of papers. It actually added charm to the place or could be, because I just love the color pink.

My instant favorite is this wall. It inspired me to mount photos of those personalities that somehow inspired me and impacted my mindset, the likes of Mother Theresa, Frida Kahlo, or maybe even a photo of Madonna along my own portrait. Ahaha

Jen got quesadillas, as always, it has become her favorite. I tried the chipotle, because It reminds me of someone very special looking for chipotle when he visited the Philippines a few months ago.

Quesadillas..

We also wanted to try the mozarella logs, which also reminded us of the mozarella logs from Spatzle. I think I want to go back.

One of Cafe Luna’s best sellers are their artisanal coffees, intricately prepared in an artistic way, good to look at but you will always wonder if you’re going to eat all those decors since they are edible. Or should I leak the dripping chocolates on the sides of the mug.

I had avocado and Jen had their best seller specialty coffee: Cadbury Nutella.

The serving time was a bit longer than usual, so I again questioned what if it’s peak time. Jen asked me to not complaint and told her I will complaint, I am just sharing my views just with her. Or maybe they should have this standard spiel of informing their guests prep time of each item that we ordered.

Anyway, I just took photos of each corner to kill time, I even went out and took this pretty windchime, a hot air balloon, which is made of glass. It’s sound is so pacifying as soft wind came in that late Saturday night.

Their line-up isn’t pricey and I think is worthy for another visit when boredom at home hits me or should I need a little change in my environment. Anyway, it’s just 15 minutes away from home.

Cafe Luna is located at: Pacita Avenue, corner 16th avenue, Pacita Complex, San Pedro, Laguna.

I’m under spell by CARMEN’S BEST Ice cream

I’m under spell by Carmen’s Best Ice cream!

Photo grabbed from: http://memoheader.com/ice-cream-quotes/

Hello Summer!

I could have written this weeks ago and make an introduction that sounds like “Summer is just around the corner”, etc, etc, etc. But it already is! So when everyone’s looking for activities for this special and favorite season of most of us, what better way to enjoy Summer just in case you’re not yet in the outdoors or still in the warmth of your homes, is to indulge in the sweetest way possible.

Treat yourself with Carmen’s Best Ice cream. The first one we’ve tried is the salted caramel. And yes, it is the best salted caramel I’ve tried (so far), maybe I have to make another evaluation if I get to taste some from different countries, although I’ve tried Ben and Jerry’s, Rita’s, Bunny, Gelatissimo to mention a few, but I won’t forget mentioning that Carmen’s Best is truly “made in the Philippines” (the flag waver in me), a local product brand which originated from a quaint dairy farm in Laguna.

It is a bit pricey if compared with the other staple brands of ice cream in our country. However, when you get the chance to taste it, it’ll immediately justify the price. It is made of the best quality ingredients which resulted into a very tempting, and addicting version of ice cream.

Take a look and try it as soon as you can! It is definitely a Summer treat =)

Here are the complete list of flavors:

-Cookie dough
-Cheese
-Ube
-Turkish Baklava
-Cereal milk
-Rocky road
-Pistachio
-Malted milk
-Madagascar vanilla
-Green tea
-Salted caramel
-Nuts about you
-He’s not worth it
-Dark chocolate
-Coffee almond fudge
-Butter pecan
-Brown butter almond brittle
-Brazilian coffee

I highlighted those that I’ve tried and been eyeing to try the Brazilian coffee and Rocky road.

I used to eat ice cream on the bus. =)

ICE FLOWER Korean Dessert Cafe

ICE FLOWER – Korean Dessert Cafe

“On trying new things.”

It’s already the “ber” months and still, it felt like Summer most of the time.

Jen and I just had one hefty lunch and we’re looking for a place with a unique dessert as we’ve had enough of the cakes that usual coffee shops are offering.

I am actually craving for “Halo-halo”, a staple dessert in our country, it usually contains different sweetened ingredients, milk base in shredded ice. My most favorite from among the many “rekados” (ingredients) is the sweetened red beans. I would have it boiled at home and add condensed milk without the shaved ice. I definitely love it.

What a coincidence that we ended up at “Ice flower”. A Korean dessert cafe that offers something similar to our “halo-halo” and I was so thrilled to find out that they have one with just red beans on it.

facade
Upon seeing the red beans, I got so excited.

We also like the fact that their interiors are unique, a combination of industrial with raw walls and painted floors and with touches of country design with chairs in bright colors. There are hints of some elements that I loved as well.

I was counting the ACU’s and initially complained of it, not until after we had their famous dessert, the atmosphere went colder.

Where are the flowers? =)

Please take a look:

My toy… It is trending now, and seen it on several establishments.

The softest shaved ice I’ve tried, so far.

Jen and I had such a crazy schedule at work, she was promoted just recently while I am assigned to several projects at work come last quarter of 2016. We are normally very busy during these months.

Busy texting…

I won’t miss capturing this.

And this.

So we didn’t get the chance to do our usual out of town trips much as we had hoped for and just make do with whatever interests us nearby. Though I equally love the discoveries we’ve made in such a small place like Molito.

rattan
They looked like Rattans, however, they’re made of weaved plastic.

Ice Flower is located at Molito, a new place that we intend to visit frequently, it is just near our place, and they have a line of very interesting shops too. Just across our rendezvous – the Alabang Town Center.

cheese
We will try this next time!

After a few days that we tried this, I learned from some friends that there are other Korean Dessert shops showing up everywhere. With that popular snack/ dessert with Azuki beans. It is known to them as Bingsu.

snow-room
Ain’t sure if the others have this kind of room. With snow falling inside.

I’m home now and finding balance, having deep thoughts over some stuff I need to do for myself and my family, and at the same time preparing for work for the coming fast-paced weeks, which I expect to be busier than the previous ones. Till then.

ps

By the way, there’s a restaurant at Molito which specializes in mushrooms, different kinds of it. I’m bringing my son over one of these days. A mushroom lover he is. I can’t wait. His smile is like sunshine to me. =)

We are both “AIR”. Currently studying the elements, and loving it with all my mind, heart and soul. =)

WAGAMAMA Cafe…

Wagamama Cafe

If you happen to pass by the main road of Pacita Complex in San Pedro, Laguna, you will noticed that the road is a plethora of shops that sell almost everything that you would need, from food, any girls’ haven (salon), medicine stores, toys for the big boys (car shops), laundry shops, dental clinics, bars, name it.

Of course, who wouldn’t want to stop by for a jar of coffee?

In short, foodie buddy and I spotted another. Wagamama Cafe. Again, out of curiosity, I research for the word: “Wagamama”. It means “naughty child” in the Japanese language.

facade
Hmmmn… Japanese coffee shop..

And as we enter this cafe, I immediately check their chiller for my favorite dessert.

They have it, I’m good! =)

two young ladies took our orders which pretty faces and accents were that of Filipino Japanese. We had this assumption that they are the owners of the shop. The two girls were being assisted by an equally good-looking young man who might be a sibling too.

And there it is!

After choosing our own spots, we were contemplating between this black leathered 2 seater or that floor culture (a mini Tatami) with zabutons in earth colored fabrics. We opted to choose the former, as the Tatami is too small for us to be doing an Indian sit, or I guess we’re too big for it.

They just opened..

So what did we have?

For our drinks, we fought over having Rocky caramel coffee. It has chocolate bits on top. I had it and Jen had the White snow coffee. Why white, it is topped with bits of white chocolates.

White frost..

For a starter, we would not want to miss their version of nachos. And we both craved for salsa. Theirs is just cheese sauce, mayo and ground beef.

No salsa..

We also tried their pasta carbonara.

Not bad..

And for dessert, what else are we gonna get, but a slice of blueberry cheesecake. Our regular dose of anti-oxidants!

Meant for coffee lovers! ❤

I am pretty sure that this will be a favorite of artisanal coffee lovers just like us, or an option among the many cafes you will find around this subdivision. An ideal place to hang-out, spend laid back time with families and/ or friends.
