I spotted Tus from their Instagram account. If you’ve seen mine, I have more than 8,000 posts always having fun, dreaming, setting-goals and just being happy and inspired watching posts of my fellow Instagram junkies.

Tus is a Spanish word for “yours”. I didn’t realize that I’ve been passing by it for several times because aside from Alabang Town Center & Commerce Center , Westgate Center is like a rendezvous to me when I’m in Alabang.

I have been eyeing their half-baked cookie, and upon checking they have more attractive dishes to choose from.

I fell in love with their interiors too. The place exudes a very rustic charm and is very homey and comfy too. =)

We took great pleasure having these:

Jen and I shared those deep fried breaded mozzarella cheese sticks served with a slightly spicy marinara sauce. Jen had this crowd favorite: rib-eye steak topped with sauteed onions and melted Swiss cheese. It comes with three choices of side, Jen chose mashed potatoes. The two other choices: steamed rice and sauteed corn.

Diavolo: Hmm, from the name itself, I’m pretty sure it is spicy. So I asked the attendant if they can lessen the spiciness, and they said they can, except for the Pepperoni which is naturally a little bit spicy on its’ own which for the good part of it, I can manage. Aside from the Pepperoni, it has chili olive oil, red onions, black olives, marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese and homemade pizza dough. As described, this pot pie is cooked upside down on a clay pot and homemade dough is oven-baked to perfection. And I really love their dough! =)

I am so excited for the famous half-baked cookie. For some reason, it reminded me of the cookie shots at Aguirre street, however, it’s just sad that Cafe Alezon shut down already.

Like a finale, we truly enjoyed this house-made cookie dough half-baked in a cazuela. It comes with a scoop of ice cream. Cazuela is a pan or a casserole in Spanish.

They’ve got all the drinks you’d ever need except for coffee. They’ve got iced tea and lemonades, fruit shakes, hot teas and they have wines too.

I reckon that there must be thousands who have tried dining here and most likely have gone back for several times. You should try Tus! =)

To eat is an activity that we Filipinos are fond of. We dine to bond, to chat, to be relaxed, to cherish moments and look forward to the next “eating out” together.

As diversed as we are, we are adventurous and fearless to try new things, we appreciate different cultures and cuisines. One of ours is Japanese food along with the rest of the world’s offerings.

Jen and I’s favorite are Italian and Japanese food, of course we love our own Filipino dishes too. Jen recently fostered a penchant for Korean dishes which I couldn’t support since I am not into too spicy food. =)

When Festival Mall did an expansion last year, Tenya is one of those exciting restaurants which occupied the expansion wing – The Water Garden. Strategically located at the entrance and just a short walk from Civic drive, Alabang.

They’re in Indonesia and Thailand too. And more than 200 branches in Japan.

We opted to try it out usually due to our cravings. We’re in sync this time, usually, we craved differently so we had to decide whose wish will be granted. =)

Tenya’s interiors maintained the image of a typical Japanese restaurant with lanterns bearing some significant characters, always eye-catching you can’t help but look-up.

That Zen feel (less is more), the unique atmosphere, minimalist approach and often uses neutral color scheme and natural woods with touches of bright colors like red, yellow or green.

Tenya’s offering boast its’ expertise in tendon. Mr. Yoshio Iwashita, opened a restaurant way back 1989 which provides a more affordable offering since tendon are expensive, and so the menu says. =)

Tendon, also known as donburi (a bowl of rice with toppings),usually a complete meal, with everything on it, shrimp tempura, fish, vegetables,
squid, or any meat will do, topped on a steamed rice that comes with a special dontare sauce.

So I got the one with a poster outside. The Ultimate crab tendon teishoku. It comes with a special “aligue” (crab fats) sauce.

Mine is with a miso soup while Jen’s Udon came with 2 Black tiger prawns, kani stick, green beans, sweet potato and eggplant tempura.

For sharing, we also tried their rendition of California maki.

We truly enjoyed mixing our own sauces. Their claim that theirs are the freshest is very distinct. The servings are just good enough, and the taste just met our expectations. We weren’t disappointed at all.

Due to the season, they just had a hard time attending to requests per table as swiftly as they can. As they only have 2 attendants when we came. There were times when people from production area are the ones serving our orders. Even the Security Officer is extending a hand already. Probably due to lack of personnel.

If I can also suggest, using pitchers with cover that might fall off is also not recommendable. It might spell trouble.

Over-all, we’re still wanting to come back here. =)

“Coffee and friends, make the perfect blend.”

On my way to work, I spotted this newly-opened coffee shop in our hometown. Luna Cafe. It looks cozy from the outside, and I saw some splashes of the color pink inside. I instantly wanted to pay visit and check their menu so I scheduled it immediately over the next weekend.

I have been on the look-out for a coffee shop ala “Starbucks” that’s just near my place, like a rendezvous. I think this one’s the nearest so far. I have a leaning with “Picked” but it is 2 rides away from where I lived. And Starbucks is an hour drive from home.

Luna Cafe happens to be sitting beside another coffee shop. I just wondered why the owner of the place allowed tenants in similar businesses, it should be offer a variety as they will both benefit from it, looking at it, the other coffee shop looked gloomy, there was no guests at that time. While there are 2 tables occupied at Luna cafe.

Their interiors is the typical shabby looking, modern take of whats’ eclectic since they combined industrial chairs with girly and chic pieces, there are even flowers mounted on their walls that are made of papers. It actually added charm to the place or could be, because I just love the color pink.

My instant favorite is this wall. It inspired me to mount photos of those personalities that somehow inspired me and impacted my mindset, the likes of Mother Theresa, Frida Kahlo, or maybe even a photo of Madonna along my own portrait. Ahaha

Jen got quesadillas, as always, it has become her favorite. I tried the chipotle, because It reminds me of someone very special looking for chipotle when he visited the Philippines a few months ago.

We also wanted to try the mozarella logs, which also reminded us of the mozarella logs from Spatzle. I think I want to go back.

 

One of Cafe Luna’s best sellers are their artisanal coffees, intricately prepared in an artistic way, good to look at but you will always wonder if you’re going to eat all those decors since they are edible. Or should I leak the dripping chocolates on the sides of the mug.

I had avocado and Jen had their best seller specialty coffee: Cadbury Nutella.

The serving time was a bit longer than usual, so I again questioned what if it’s peak time. Jen asked me to not complaint and told her I will complaint, I am just sharing my views just with her. Or maybe they should have this standard spiel of informing their guests prep time of each item that we ordered.

Anyway, I just took photos of each corner to kill time, I even went out and took this pretty windchime, a hot air balloon, which is made of glass. It’s sound is so pacifying as soft wind came in that late Saturday night.

Their line-up isn’t pricey and I think is worthy for another visit when boredom at home hits me or should I need a little change in my environment. Anyway, it’s just 15 minutes away from home.

I’m so glad to have brought my family to dine at Balay Dako… It just occurred to me that when they planned going to Tagaytay, I instantly thought of bringing them nowhere else but at Balay Dako.

And because me, my son and her girlfriend were outnumbered by oldies, what we ordered were those that are a little “healthier”, even if I wanted a lot from the menu to try for myself, please take a look:

I was quite disappointed with the halo-halo, I think they lack some of the ingredients.

The oldies wanted fish, so we had sweet and sour fish for them.

I actually can’t figure out what matches it. We just had the beef shanks soup (“Bulalo” in Filipino), and normally green mango salad fits best with fried food.

I’ve tried most of their desserts, so we can always go out and find another, there’s a lot of places in Tagaytay where you can find a good one to get your sweet cravings. So it’s like hopping from one place to another, besides Tagaytay is a very beautiful place. You wouldn’t mind just looking around.

 

 

 

Peperoni Pizzeria: “Appetite for Life”

“Stress and pizza cannot co-exist.”

When my son is still in my tummy, I crave for pizza a lot. I would try any kind. Even those that you can buy from the streets. We even prepared a DIY at home several times.

My friends were telling me that when my baby grows up, he would definitely love pizza too.

And I was able to prove it, he was a pizza addict. You could just imagine the grin on his face each time he discovers that we’re ordering a box or two of pizza. It really spells h-a-p-p-y all over his face.

There’s this one pizza parlor at Uptown Mall which I find really cute, there’s a signage that says: “All we knead is love.” Upon reading it, I instantly thought of pizza, and yes they sell pizzas. Wood fired pizzas. The store’s name is “Peperoni Pizzeria”.

I heard that they originated from Singapore. Their first branch here in the Philippines is located at Greenwood and this one that we visited is at BGC (Bonifacio Global City).

What’s best to pair it are pastas right? So we tried two kinds. Carbonara with its’ creamy white sauce and tasty bacon, and we all like the red sauce since the taste of tomato sauce goes well with our pizza.

On a day like this, as simple as it is, I knew in my heart, that in our own little ways, we were able to make my son happy as I catch glimpses of his smiling face looking at us in random.

When we’re about to leave, they are currently preparing one order at the working area.

We have a very limited time to go around this mall but it was a generous amount of quality time that we spent together since we do not go out as often.

By the way, my son can consumed an entire box of pizza with 10-12 slices of his favorite variant all on his own. =) We don’t mind, as long as he is happy. As Peperoni Pizzeria’s principle says: “Appetite for Life”.
