NANA & Co.-Indulge sweetly

NANA & Co.

“Count the memories, not the calories.”

My son and his girlfriend just had our late snack from this burger joint at Molito Lifestyle Center. What we’ve consumed were so flavorful, not to mention, a little oily too, so we agreed to have some dessert somewhere else just to cap everything off.

We found “Nana & Co.” It is a dessert and sandwich bar. I wondered why I have overlooked this place, my friend told me that we usually passed by this restaurant but were always heading to Starbucks just fronting Nana & Co each time.

It is a cozy place, very quite, its’ high ceiling made an impact to create an eminent ambiance and their display shelves were the ones that will attract you to go inside. What awaits you is a very colorful and happy scene.

The walls are white and those flashes of happy colors matched the neutral colors of the chairs and table.

Their shelves are stocked-up, there were no empty space, so it is very inviting.

All the staff are smiling too when we came and one of them rushed to welcome and had us sitted. He even courteously asked if where do we want to be sitted.

Their products are neatly labeled and are very attractive, and there are stuff about baking all over the place.

It was pleasing to the eye especially if you’re a dessert lover.

I ordered for their pistachio sansrival. I usually asked what’s their best seller. It just so happen that it is what I ordered. Other items that sells best according to the attendant is the blueberry cheesecake. My son ordered for one.

I honestly loved the sansrival, not too sweet and there’s a generous amount of pistachio in all layers, I could have it in exchange with my all-time favorite blueberry cheesecake.

The blueberry cheesecake is the usual like how it should be.

I would have to try their home-made artisanal ice cream soon. Their flavors are very enticing.

Nana & Co is located at: Molito Commercial Complex, Alabang, Muntinlupa City

LA MARIPILI – A classic treat reinvented…

La Maripili – A classic treat reinvented..

Churros are a common goodies during my teenage years. Over and above, It is  my best friend’s favorite. We will save our money just to go to Greenbelt, Makati (our school is in Manila) and guzzle with our portions which came with hot chocolate. It came from a teensy Spanish restaurant – Dulcinea. Oftentimes, we leave with take out bags of goodies containing beehives, eclairs, lemon squares, etc and we sometimes couldn’t wait and munch on them while still in the car.

Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot about churros. Several establishments have endorsed it as one of their offerings and I even went all the way to Manila just to try the one from Bay leaf hotel, at Cioccolata.

Some low-end churros are baked and are not deep fried also find their way in the market. And even if the latter is not that good to our health, I still prefer it than those that are baked. I missed the goodness in its’ crunch I guess.

Just recently, there’s a new brand endorsing a new version which if I can call them churros for “the hungry ones”. Because it is over-sized and longer like 4x more than that of the usual that we used to have from Dulcinea more than 20 years ago. Back then, we were provided with a small ceramic pot and we will pour the choco syrup in a separate cup and there we dip our churros as we pleased.

Now, it comes in paper cups and is measured and served with just an ample quantity.

Bloggers like me would avoid as much as possible giving derogatory remarks whenever we didn’t like a recently discovered place(s) much so the service rendered by attendants. It is popular probably because of networking sights, bloggers, a good marketing arm and probably if the owner is a celebrity. The product seems to be over-rated.

This frustration was nullified by the most recent churros brand that I accidentally discovered from my best friend’s daughter’s her Instagram posts. Her mom happens to be my college BFF whose favorite is churros (and up to now, she will still ask us to visit Dulcinea from time to time). And I was the one who preferred eclairs. So it’s like me saying: “Like mother, like daughter”.

La Maripili is in Alabang. Almost across Molito and considered as an annex of ATC which also happens to be my rendevouz while I was still a student.

Its’ facade is all white, beckoning with its French door and floor to ceiling glass windows. You can’t help but have your photos taken in front of it.

la-6
Come on, let’s have some churros! =)

And as we enter, the huge mirror on one wall is with “millennial” phrasings and words about churros, food & beverage in general and some inspirational quotes. I must say that aside from the transparent kitchen, that mirror is the focal point of the place.

Nice to have greens above it..

Focal point..

Their menu is user-friendly ( unlike the other brand I talked about), the attendants seem to be with excitement each time a guest arrives and were accommodating. Of course, they up-sell, which I think is part of their spiels. And it didn’t take us long to get our orders. #quickservice

Anything but caramel..
Anything but caramel..

It is a bit pricey though it is given that most establishments in Alabang town center caters to the medium/high end crowd.

While it’s worth it because their churros brought me back to memory lane  – college days.

Just the right size..=)
Just the right size..=)

It is deep fried but they make it a point to drain them well. The chocolate dip is so thick that it looked like almost melted chocolate bars.

As part of innovating, they have variants which come with fillings in different flavors. we tried the one with caramel. What else?

With Ms. Caramel! =)

As OC (obsessive/compulsive) as I can get, I was able to check the frying station and it surprised me to see that the oil is clean and almost transparent.

Nice!
Nice!

Their specialty, their chosen product to reach their target market and add the place ideal for some cozy talk and/or bonding with family and friends and their trained roster. I have to say that it is worth a commendation. Till our next cravings. =)

Larcy’s Cupcakery – Mastering the Art of baking cupcakes…

I would definitely love it to get a head start and fill my surroundings with pretty things I love. To start off, we found a place in my favorite color, then we shop for some girly and vanity stuff and then head to this shabby chic spot at Aguirre street and voila, I fell in love with the hearts in all sizes and all shades of pink which you will find all over the place. We were at Larcy’s place. All pink and pretty.

Second floor is under-going renovation.

To be honest, with all those lovely and dainty cupcakes, we really had a hard time choosing what to have. Jen even wants to get everything with a sugared heart on top, whatever is pretty, she will go for it, though we opted to get their recommendations and had limit our choice to the list of best sellers.

Not bad at less than a hundred..

Of course, my own blueberry cheesecake is included in the list, however, they ran out of it, and they’re currently baking it. In all fairness, they apologized and asked if we can wait for less than an hour as of course they bake it in batches.

17
Baking area… Where’s my blueberry cheesecake? =)

We thanked them for the offer, we know that we can’t wait that long so we got the others from their list.

We had the following:

Rocky road for me!

Chocolate brownie overload..
caramel
Caramel for Ms. Caramel!

And pair them with two of their drinks:

7
Iced mocha for Jen and latte for me..

The ambiance of their store if I can use the term “happy”.

As more guests are coming, everyone is at their best, smiles on their faces and laughter with their friends or families. Like we did.

So shabby chic..

Even their attendants, their being “nice” isn’t canned and the initiative to do something in order to please the guest is innate in them. Reading people’s actions seems to be their turf. One attendant offered us to utilize a stand fan since the air-conditioning unit couldn’t accommodate the whole place, it isn’t defective, it is just so scorching hot during that afternoon.

And another attendant while we were taking photos, volunteered that he take a picture of us on that awesome wall with the logo of Larcy’s with hearts in all shapes.

18
Can it be considered a mural?

They also served us glasses of iced water due to the fact that the temperature is awful as if despite of it, they all wanted their guests to enjoy their stay at Larcy’s.

We actually did, and in most of my blogs, I often say, I’m gonna come back here, We’re going back here, etc, etc. And I’d like to say it again, we’re definitely going back here. Larcy’s is without a doubt addicting.

The PATISSERIE at Solaire Hotel

The PATISSERIE at Solaire Hotel

“Bakers make the world smell better.”

This is the day or should I say the night that we’ve been waiting for. We are going to watch “Les Miserables” at the theater of Solaire Hotel.

Solaire is just in front of City of Dreams which cab drivers calls it as COD, so we didn’t have a hard time getting there.

Before everything else. We need to feed our stomachs prior to feeding our eyes much so our soul.

We landed at “The Patisserie”.

French pastries and cakes…

It didn’t allow us to look no further as the display of pastries in their chillers are so inviting and we actually had a hard time choosing as well.

I honestly liked my grilled sandwich, with melted cheese on it and of course the tomatoes. I like anything with tomatoes.

My coffee was a bit strong so I had to request for a simple syrup.

Jen seems to be enjoying hers. It is with caramel anyway.

She seems to be excited, questioned of getting something that will take me time to consume.

We were invited to try dining at the Oasis Garden cafe, however I am much into leaning to try it at Lucky Noodles because of it’s super huge mural. =)

All things that my eyes adore!

There are brightly colored flowers all around infusing me love for life, all the more.

I just got over the first quarter of 2016 and it has been big for me so far. And very soon after this, I know better days will come.

True enough, there’s always and always something to be grateful for. The sweet results of hard work and choices we make, of planning to make the best out of what I have in life. Giving a lot to it and life giving back all the elements making up the sweet life.

I’m telling you, just find beauty in the ordinary, everyday. I just did. =)

CATHERINE’s Cakes and Pies

Catherine’s Cakes and Pies

“Take your pleasure seriously.” ~Charles Eames~

Okay, reaching 40, I then came into a conclusion that my awareness has to go further even to how I feed myself. I noticed lines in my face, and remembered the years when they are not there yet.

I noticed sagging skin, my being weakling in some tasks that used to be very easy for me. How I love to walk years ago and I dread them now or maybe because I was in the wrong pair of shoes.

Nevertheless, I had to remind myself to be more conscious, simply because I am no longer in my twenty’s.

However, life is short and during occasion, I sometimes give in to my vices and indulge. =)

I am so excited to share with you how I discovered one of the best apple pie in my country as declared by spot.ph as of 2014.

We had two different cakes come New Year’s Eve.

2 boxes
Both from Catherine’s!

While I listed down brands as to where I will get my New year’s eve desserts on top of my home-made salad, I finally decided to get it from Catherine’s. I saw them from spot.ph. Stalked their Facebook page and as impressive as they are in the photos. It is exactly how it is in real life. They are also very cooperative on-line. My queries were immediately answered which prompted me to choose them this year.

For these two different cakes. They were my dessert for almost three consecutive days after New year’s eve and honestly, I didn’t get tired eating them. I indulged in every sense of the word. And was emotional while eating like have them tried by my besties and that we will eat them together while sharing many stories.

And If I may describe the apple pie, believe me, the caramel sauce isn’t too sweet. You will catch some bits of walnuts in each bite and I’ve come to appreciate more the benefits of walnuts not only for my cravings but for my body as well. I forget to mention, I saw a lot of apples, and apples and apples. And the crust is so flaky, which tasted heavenly for me. It is really worth it. If you will find out how we were able to get them and went all the way to Sucat, Paranaque on Dec. 30 just to get them.

apple pie
Sweetly comes with personalized cards and pretty ribbons that I wouldn’t want to throw away. =)

While the blueberry cheesecake, you know how I love it, and if I can have it as often as I can, I will surely do.

my bb
Loved the cheese!

It is nice to know that they weren’t frugal in topping them with real berries. They even topped them with cheese which created a different but nicer taste for me, my son didn’t like the idea but since I’ve always love cheese, it tasted better for me. And the fluffy texture is just so right. The creaminess of the cheesecake is not tiring, which allowed the natural taste of blueberries to still be dominant. Besides, it is blueberry cheesecake with a twist. It was my first to try one with cheese on top of it.

I forgot to have a photo with the owner, they were so pleasing and thoughtful too. They even left instructions inside the box like a serving suggestion.

Soon, I’m going to get the sampler box. It is sugar, spice and everything nice. It is a happy new year indeed!

My New Year’s Eve spread wouldn’t be complete without the sweet ones! Thank you Catherine’s!
