Great finds at LANDERS Superstore (Alabang West)

Great finds at LANDERS Superstore (Alabang West)

“What once loved in childhood, stays in the heart forever”. ~Mary Jo Putney~

I have been hearing a lot about Landers from my kids. My son in particular have been so excited each time he will mention to me that like S&R, Landers has a pizza parlor too. And we all know, that for him, pizza is synonymous to the word “happy”.

I can’t blame him, I remember myself as a child, I almost can’t sleep if my father announced that we will be going to the supermarket the next day, I recall the cart being pushed by my papa and mama’s the one scrutinizing items displayed on every shelf, and it literally put a smile on my face to remember times like this as a child. The same excitement I was able to inject to my son as well. As he used to go with me as a child, during visits to the supermarket. Maybe just like my parents, I must be ready (or my wallet) if my son is with me during each visit. =)

So one weekend, My son and I decided to finally check this newly opened branch in Alabang with his girlfriend – Gela.

I was thinking of only a few things that I’m hoping to find at Landers which I didn’t find from the other (S&R). Echo eyed just one or two, his barbecue sauce.

I got the 2 kids one bottle for each. #skewerjunkies

And of course not to miss the New York style pizza from Landers Central.

My son said the dough are hand-tossed. While I like their pizza better, since it isn’t too oily. =)

Similar brands are at hand, there’s also a corner for pastries via Dough & Co. For non-food, I also spotted super soft bed coverings and towels, the usual corners I visit and of course: toiletries.

My favorite brand for pistachios.

The brands for popcorn such as Garretts, Act II, Butterkist, Werthers I didn’t find, but I found this. So I’m happy too. =)

Some staple brands like Bragg ACV, Combos cheese, I found them cheaper from local supermarkets.

This hard to find mayonnaise is available too. =)

Basically, whenever you already prepared a long list of what to cook for a week, everything you need is there. From condiments to flavored meats, delis, veggies, name it.

They also have our own Carmen’s Best, lined up along Double rainbow ice cream, Baileys, Cadbury, even wine flavored ice cream to mention a few. And the sausage I need for gumbos.

What made Landers interesting to me is that they put special attention to their interiors. They didn’t look like an air-conditioned warehouse of grocery items, they took care of the ambience that it felt good doing your groceries. Definitely blissful. =)

And, this part I find amusing, there is a Barber shop inside. What I thought of instantly is that since some men aren’t that patient to accompany their wives, girlfriends or daughters while shopping. They dedicated a special place for “The Boys” to stay or do something while waiting for their ladies. Isn’t it a cool idea? =)

Check them out, one might just be near your place. Here are their locations (more branches to open they say):

-Balintawak, Quezon City
-Otis, Paco, Manila
-Cebu City
-Alabang, Muntinlupa City
-Arcovia, Pasig City

Alabang West

PS

It was great to know that the membership fee (P800.00 for non-business) is half the original price when we visited. =)  Apply online, and you’ll get the same perk too. Hurry!

NANA & Co.-Indulge sweetly

NANA & Co.

“Count the memories, not the calories.”

My son and his girlfriend just had our late snack from this burger joint at Molito Lifestyle Center. What we’ve consumed were so flavorful, not to mention, a little oily too, so we agreed to have some dessert somewhere else just to cap everything off.

We found “Nana & Co.” It is a dessert and sandwich bar. I wondered why I have overlooked this place, my friend told me that we usually passed by this restaurant but were always heading to Starbucks just fronting Nana & Co each time.

It is a cozy place, very quite, its’ high ceiling made an impact to create an eminent ambiance and their display shelves were the ones that will attract you to go inside. What awaits you is a very colorful and happy scene.

The walls are white and those flashes of happy colors matched the neutral colors of the chairs and table.

Their shelves are stocked-up, there were no empty space, so it is very inviting.

All the staff are smiling too when we came and one of them rushed to welcome and had us sitted. He even courteously asked if where do we want to be sitted.

Their products are neatly labeled and are very attractive, and there are stuff about baking all over the place.

It was pleasing to the eye especially if you’re a dessert lover.

I ordered for their pistachio sansrival. I usually asked what’s their best seller. It just so happen that it is what I ordered. Other items that sells best according to the attendant is the blueberry cheesecake. My son ordered for one.

I honestly loved the sansrival, not too sweet and there’s a generous amount of pistachio in all layers, I could have it in exchange with my all-time favorite blueberry cheesecake.

The blueberry cheesecake is the usual like how it should be.

I would have to try their home-made artisanal ice cream soon. Their flavors are very enticing.

Nana & Co is located at: Molito Commercial Complex, Alabang, Muntinlupa City

CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN – Taking Italian food seriously like Italians do

California Pizza Kitchen – Taking Italian food seriously like Italians do

“Italian food is all about ingredients, and it’s not fussy and it’s not fancy.”~Woflgang Puck~

At Alabang Town Center, there is a wide array of Italian restaurants which you can choose from, such as Italiannis, Brooklyn Pizza, Amici, Cibo to name a few. When one I frequented. California Pizza Kitchen. It has been there as long as I can remember. I even have a photo with a friend at CPK more than 10 years ago.

So what’s the secret of a place to keep on thriving and remain strong despite of the numerous newly-constructed restaurants which offers the same products like they do.

Yes, CPK originated in the USA, created and owned by Americans, who put some tweaks on this traditional Italian dish and really took it seriously.

I think they do not stop researching for trends, they update their menu and they give out promotions during occasion constantly.

Their nachos now are colored when more than 10 years ago it’s just the usual yellow orange-colored chips. The ingredients they used are fresh and even the condiments are always updated, when it’s just Tabasco in the past years, they sense the demands of picky eaters and Sriracha or Cholulas are always ready on their tables.

Even the logo speaks for a thousand descriptions bringing you to this state where the legendary palm trees abound among other famous trees in California, from there to almost every part of the globe including the Philippines. =)

From 1985 to 2012 to present. =)

And of course not to forget mentioning the training they provide to their people extensive enough to keep customers coming. They keep this ROCK principle (rock philosophy: respect, opportunity, communication, kindness). Allowing their people to be inspired while at work.

So these are some of what they have in their menus:

I am not so much a fan of barbecue flavored stuff, but this hand-tossed pizza had me craving for more. I am used to pepperonis, so this one is new to me, and I really liked it. It is flavorful but not tiring and its’ spiciness is something I can tolerate. I’ve shared before I am not into spicy food, but this one is okay with me. =)

The usual item that we asked to “advance call” is the nachos, we had this dip I so love, I wanted to do it at home. It’s their spinach artichoke dip, healthy and fun to eat too.

We tried one of the pastas too, vegetable primavera, which is also a healthy option.

The flat bread with four cheese dip: hearth-baked mozzarella, queso quesadilla, smoked Gouda and Velveeta is so addicting.

4 cheese

I learned from the Restaurant Manager that Velveeta is a brand name compared to an American cheese, which texture is softer and smoother than a processed cheese. It is supposed to be consumed in moderation due to its’ high sodium content and preservatives.

While Gouda cheese is all natural from cow’s milk. Aside from the calories it’ll add to your diet, and fats, it’ll give you a little amount of calcium too. So, not bad.

The menu says “green mango salad” though I had yellow mangoes in it and I didn’t bother to contest it, it tasted really good, crunchy, fresh, a little bit funky like I’m a veggie lover all my life remember?

Anti-oxidants. =)

The Black Pig

The Black Pig
“Good food is good mood.”
Coming across an article that featured restaurants with the most beautiful and impressive interiors, being a designer,  it has drawn me to see them up close and personal. Neil’s Kitchen was in that list though I’ve been there several times and I must agree that their interiors is not just beautiful, their food is awesome too. The next that caught my attention from the list is The Black Pig.
It is a few blocks away from Neil’s Kitchen. It’s in Alabang too at the second level of Commerce Center. Without the heat of the sun, it is walking distance for me. The Black Pig’s facade isn’t too attractive as the whole place from the outside isn’t well- lighted. But the welcoming smiles of their attendants will compensate for that which kept my brain engaged.
Since Jen already commented:”The placed looked gloomy.” This is because they opted to use hanging lamps and pin lights on selected areas.

Rustic..
Upon entrance, it is only the time I began admiring the place from the interiors, their furniture, lighting system, the colors that they’ve chosen, the vigilance of their attendants to the table wares (made by a known potter from Laguna), cutlery and the food itself.

b8
Looked Moroccan to me. =)
There are some touches of green elements which add life to the whole place. What will caught your attention is definitely the bar.
b16
Awesome..

b3
There’s the famous bar..

b4
I liked that swing door going to the kitchen..
It exudes order and class by the use of black and brown finishes. Usually, most bars looked untidy even if the items are properly arranged due to the fact that you see everything from it: sorts of bottles, glass, machines, some bars are even with baskets of fruits displayed on the counter like so much is happening in it. At The Black Pig, you will see the clutter though it will not sore your depicting eyes.

Coasters made from Guava tree..

b17
All corners are inviting..

And we choose this.

b14
Not yet peak time when we visited..

That chair…

There’s even a guide for drinking wine.

b7
Very useful especially with me who doesn’t drink any liquor at all.

A cool utensils rack.

b5
Very orderly..

When it comes to food. We had a three course meal altogether which started with a green salad:

b20
I enjoyed this fresh treat..

I am training my palette with fresh greens and it’s followed by a slow-cooked chicken dish:

b18
Chicken please. =)

and home-made ice cream for dessert.

b13
Ube for me and caramel for Jen..

We had the feel of drinking Al fresco with that refreshing raspberry iced tea.

According to the attendants, peak time is usually dinner time onward because they serve alcoholic drinks too.

During the afternoon, if you wish for a less crowded place to have lunch or snack. The Black pig will give you that. It is ideal for business meetings too. For the overall experience, dining there, the ambiance, service and carefully prepared food is recommendable.
I suggest that you try it, when you’re heading to the south. They’re located at: Commerce Center Building, Filinvest Ave. corner, E Asia Drive, Filinvest Corporate City, Alabang, Muntinlupa, 1781 Metro Manila

“S” for Silantro – Another Fil-Mex on the rise

SILANTRO Fil-Mex Cantina

The name of this restaurant is very intriguing even if from its’ name, we would know already that it is Mexican.

The only difference is that another term of coriander which is cilantro starts with a letter “C” and not with a letter “S”, so that made it intriguing. What would differentiate it from other Mexican joints?

And our search for a “To die for” nachos is obligatory. There are some amazing places we’ve spotted, still, we yearn to be satiated by something new.

The nearest Silantro from our place is in Alabang. So we headed there one weekend.

It was not a surprise to witness a long queue when we arrived. I have been seeing it several times on social medias.

s7
Patience is a virtue.

Most of them are in big groups, and since we’re only two, a very vigilant attendant was able to squeeze us in inside. He asked if we’re good with the counter and we don’t mind.

s5

Our spread was overwhelming. Their portions are bigger and per my high-school’s friends’ recommendation, yes their nachos is great.

s13
I doubt if we can consume these..

Jen’s Silantro’s quesadillas even came with french fries. While my burrito came with three different dips. All of them didn’t compromise my palate.

s8

s9

While they didn’t use ground meat on the nachos but cubed beefs, cut smaller than the usual, making the sauce tastier and irresistible, their version of the cheese sauce is thicker since they mixed mozzarella with it. Veggies are sufficient too and the corn tortillas tasted like home-made and very crispy.

s10
Highly recommendable. =)

It was a good decision to try them but we will be choosy with the hours on our next visit. We heard that they are usually congested.

By the way, the interiors is modish too. Their theme is a combination of rustic and industrial. Raw floors, there are wall decals, impressive lighting fixtures and my favorite, they resorted to Machuca tiles to accentuate their floors.

They deserve a second visit, we have a lot to try next time. We thought of the shrimp skewers. =)

No wonder that their branches are increasing lately.
