Old School

Bear with me if I’m old school. Yes, old school. I wasn’t able to keep up with the mentality of the New Age of too much freedom.

Old school, because I am aghast with manners that are missing when to most people it is just but normal. Yes, it is normal nowadays to do whatever you feel like doing, because it makes you happy, without thinking of its’ effect to others. You do it, you say it because the only thing important to you is your own happiness. Regardless of its’ effect to others.

Even social media is full of encouragement of prioritizing the “self”, love yourself, me first, myself first, because the goal is to be happy. Yes, to be happy, more than anything else like kindness which used to be important and even sacred decades ago.To be happy, more than being kind, more than being considerate, more than that conscious effort to avoid hurting others. Because what’s important is the “me”.

Gone are the days, when parents teach us to think twice, thrice, before saying things, doing things, if it’ll hurt others, even if it is what we want. Gone are the days that we are very careful and to the extent of sacrificing the “self” for the good of the many.

Though, I still know souls who set-aside themselves, more so, their own happiness, to avoid hurting others. And this is the kind of love in my opinion that is genuine and true. Let alone time decide for them to revel in the bliss selfless people like them deserves.

No more wondering of the result, no more beginning with the end in mind. No more.

No one cares anymore to what others would feel, ironically, when why EQ in the new age is as equally important as IQ. Ironic.

Are we better off without feeling the feelings of others? When we focused too much on ourselves being happy? Is being happy a feeling or a set of mind, or in conditions of material wealth, health, status, or presence of people accepting you for all that you are.

That the self compels us of our everyday actions. Me. Myself. I.

Isnt’ it feelings is the great motivator for us taking our next actions. It is. It defines our future. And probably the future of those who became our victims.

It is why there are increasing number of souls who opted to end their lives even if it isnt’ their time yet. Because no one cared of how they’re feeling. No one understands. Or maybe. No one listened. The lack of desire to live because there are too many people who cared less and more to themselves. Too much pain inflicted without remorse. Too much focus on the “self”.

I can not be convinced that there’ll be people who will not feel the slightest hit and not bother. We are humans. Even robots cry nowadays.

Beleive it or not i do not belong in this age. I left my heart somewhere where nothing taught me that being beaten will make you tougher.

I must admit that some of what I said will bounce back at me. The principles I keep on keeping. Old school. Earned respect? No. It is nature. The character built out of what? We never know.

As it is said by Maya Angelou (one of my favorite poets): People will not forget how you made them feel. “feel”. And how selfless to train ourselves to be kind to unkind people because it is them who needs it most. Compassion. Old school. Still, it is my shield, against “some” of the world’s cruelty. Endless beating. Old school. Brave heart. Taking courage because there’s too much beauty in the other world out there.

And at the end of the day. Who sleeps well? The offended one or the offender? I will no longer sacrifice my peace just so to reveal some people’s true colors. Let alone the lack of character and up bringing reveal its own colors in the end. . .

LUCINA Home…

“An artist cannot fail, it is a success to be one.” ~Charles Horton Cooley~

Christmas is my favorite season of the year. I remember myself as a child helping my father in putting up our Christmas tree. He will assign me to neatly hang all the embellishments and he will be in charge of the lights. I look up to it. Now that he’s gone, it is our 5th year celebrating the season without him. And me putting up the tree alone.

Despite of that sad part, I still am excited to put up my tree. I collect photos of the grandest trees and search for places where can I get my decors. I also wanted to create “DIYs” as my trimmings. I assign what color to use each year.

Come November, I was able to visit this shop in Tagaytay which I’m eyeing for years now. Lucina Home.

lucina-17
This caught me while I was about to enter the shop…

I have talked to the owner last year that I am visiting them for a project, however said project didn’t push through for having a full plate during the “ber” months.

So I made time for it. I can’t wait to see their items. And when I did? I can’t get enough of it. I hoarded decors for my tree.

lucina-7
It’s that time of the year when you’re excused for splurging.

I bought some for my boss too, a cute notebook for my foodie buddy, gifts for friends and I promised to come back for more.

lucina-8
All the cute stuff are here..
lucina-12
Even repros of famous paintings..
lucina-14
Even millennial stuff..=)

What made the visit sweeter is the manner of their attendants tending to guests. Paul, whom I have been talking to since last year was there. Paul was busy unpacking and arranging stuff which I must assumed has recently arrived.

lucina-13
You can find best finds from all corners..

They also introduced me to Joel. They are business partners and put this shop together, bringing myriad of stuff from their travels. Both were meticulously checking their displays, inter-acting with guests, and giving me discounts!

lucina-10
I saw from google a chandelier filled with Christmas baubles, and then I saw this. It is beautiful..

Yes, Joel even gave me one of my best finds for free! It is a unique dream catcher without the real feathers on it as the whole thing is made of stainless steel.

I accidentally saw it while I was waiting for them wrapping the items I’ve bought. And I shrieked (sorry) upon seeing it. It was glaring in front of me hanging on one of their stands and instantly grab it, head to the cashier’s counter to add it to my purchases.

lucina-11
I think this is where I found the dream catcher..
lucina-16
And this is where Jen found the lighthouse..
lucina-9
I actually eyed this for our porch..=)

It was such a surprise when the cashier told me that she was instructed by her boss (Joel) that the dream catcher will be free. Awww! it was really sweet.

There’s this one attendant too who is such a good up-seller. He knew what I wanted and kept on gathering similar items and giving them to me.

lucina-20
Such a cool idea, egg shells, painted in pastels as Christmas wreaths and can be used for Easter too.. =)

Leaving with shopping bags on both hands, I knew then that there’s going to be a second visit, and a third and a fourth. I think you know what’s it like to find something you’ve been looking for. It’s like “Eureka”!

Vintage, shabby and chic..

All the elements you need for Christmas..
lucina-5
They have furniture too..

I’ve been hunting for a shop like theirs in the country for so long. An array of what I want, shabby chic items, vintage, quirky, artsy, bohemian and unique finds. Actually, I’ve taken photos of some that I intend to get soon.

lucina-15
Don’t you love that gilded mirror?
lucina-2
How about that cabinet?
lucina-21
And that pastel chair..

ps

They sell hand-painted furniture too. Something which I will be saving for. A piece in pastel pink or two will absolutely spell happiness. Until then.

They have two branches: One at Serin, Tagaytay. The other one is in Solenad. You can contact them at: 0917 887 8850

FIG TREE Cafe – Another Shabby Chic themed restaurant in the Philippines…

Fig Tree Cafe – Another Shabby Chic themed restaurant in the Philippines…

“The best is yet to come…”

Almost everyday I passed by this place before (or after because I came from work) Susana Heights in Muntinlupa, Metro Manila (a town away from my place), I am agitated to stop and drop by and check it out.

Fig Tree Cafe…

As expected, sometimes I am so busy juggling duties at work and at home (and others), Foodie buddy was the one who informed me about Fig tree cafe. Lately, she is now doing recommendations, she knew what I like and what I will approve and not disapprove. I love her for that. =)

Since she told it to me, Fig tree is so distracting and very attractive,

entrance
Isn’t it so distracting?

each time I passed by it, I really wanted to stop! It’s just that, either I lack time or It’s best to go there with friends, I have been passing by it for months now.

And then finally, We get to see it! Unplanned.

Lovely sight to behold!

And believe me, it was so lovely! Very “Shabby chic”. I had this “happy feeling”, that those stuff I am passionate about have been appearing here and there in my own country.

interiors
Eclectic too..

I fall in love all the time with quotes hanging on the walls. These and family photos take my breath away..

interiors 3
I have been working on my own house too, hanging photos and quotations here and there.

Although, honestly, I also felt something is lacking. I can’t figure it out specifically, The “Shabby chic” feel is there. But I am not seeing something that if I see it, I would instantly know it would be it.

Lighting fixtures..

Those are pails right?

This chandelier I think is the focal point. =)

Anyway, let’s go to the “Food testing” ceremony.

giant jar
That giant mug meant for the cubiertos is trending! =) I saw it from Matis’ too!

ceneter piece
Shabby chic isn’t chic without flowers..=)

flowers on table
Each bouquet per table shows one positive word, I thought they’re the seven fruits of the Holy Spirit, although there are a lot of tables.

Since I already had my lunch from work, my Foodie buddy was the one who get to try their “Caldereta”.

caldereta
Feels like home..=)

It’s one of those staple Filipino food that you will normally see from Filipino households. Along the list are: Adobo, Menudo, Kare-kare, etc. Said list is one of their specialties.

menu
Not too small, not too big for a menu..

menuboard 2
I enjoyed the menu boards written in chalks..

Desserts..

filipino menu
Most of them are favorites of the Filipinos..

filipino menu 2
Filipinos are naturally foodies..=)

I tried it too. And honestly, I liked it. It is very “Caldereta” for me, and not so spicy which is why I like it. I am not a spicy person. I’m like my late father, he doesn’t want food that are too spicy, unlike my son and my mom who always have a sauce with chili during meal times. I’d rather go for food with something salty or sweet on it. Not too much of sour and spicy.

After she finished her late lunch. We ordered for a slice of chocolate cake for her and blueberry cheesecake for me.

choco cake
She had a hard time consuming it, it’s bigger than the usual. ahaha!

bb
Mine is quite small, though, good enough for me. I even shared some to my buddy.

I was not able to ask if they’re the one who baked them, although I assume they did, I later discover that they have a Catering business.

catering
Maybe they can help us with our up-coming birthday (s)..=)

Nothing extraordinary to the two sweets that we ordered. Just the usual of what to expect from a chocolate cake and blueberry cheesecake. Just the same, these two are our comfort foods. So, it was a happy experience having our favorites available in their menu.

6 seater
We can bring friends here!

Maybe we will try next time those cupcakes lining up in their display area.

cupcakes
I see red velvets!

As I was asking the attendant who owns the place. He whispered to me that it was that guy sitted on the 3 seater couch on the left corner of the place. He just smiled at us and before I know it, he was gone. I was expecting he would somehow do PR or mingle or just find out whether the food were great or what.

Fig tree cafe is kinda big for a restaurant in the provinces. It can seat around 40 to 50 persons during peak hours. A Cleopatra chair is there for waiting guests.

cleo chair
One of the attendants told us they peak at night..

A vintage bike is also situated beside the entrance giving the feel of countryside scenes.

bike 2
Very country..

bike
The frame reads: ” ….Ours is my favorite love story..”

Isn’t it nice to dine in a place where you feel like you are being transported to another country and your food are those that your grandma cooks every weekend? Take your pick. I think mine is still “Mechado”.

When we asked for the bill, this one surprised me..=)

bill
Reminded me of “Papemelroti”, a shop I frequented since college..

They can boast the good ambiance, it was so humid coming from the outside and when they heard us complaining that it was really hot outside, one attendant immediately turned on one ACU (air-conditioning unit) to suffice the temperature outside. So we were very comfortable the whole time we were eating. The lights coming from the outside (because the windows are made of glass panels) weren’t glaring at all because of the dainty curtains they provided.

windowd signage
I guess I’ll try their creme brulee too..

See you soon Fig tree! It’s cool that you’re just 30 minutes away from our place! =)
